The
Fasting Experience at Wellspring
One of the
most unique and effective healing experiences we offer at Wellspring
is fasting. Fasting is not starving. It is a method used by the ancients
and at contemporary clinics to effect profound changes in health. Nothing
is more effective in reversing chronic health conditions, yet nothing
is as feared or misunderstood as fasting. At Wellspring, you will be
instructed as to how your body will respond to the fast, how long to
fast, and how to eat after your fast. There will be a particular emphasis
in education about your bodys tremendous innate self-healing abilities
when the causes of disease are removed. The fasting process is extremely
safe. Most people have reserves of approximately 3 weeks before they
would actually begin starving or breaking down important body tissues.
Before that happens, old and toxic matter in the cells and tissues are
broken down and eliminated. The body in its innate wisdom knows exactly
what to do when food intake is stopped, just as it knows exactly what
to do when one gets a cut on the skin. Everyone can fast. Yet not everyone
can do the same type or length of fast. The experts at Wellspring will
guide you through this. Many health conditions can be reversed through
fasting. You will need to speak to our health director to evaluate how
fasting can help your particular condition. |
|
You Are Biologically Unique
At Wellspring, you will be evaluated upon your arrival as to the
type and length of fast you should undertake to maximize your time
for healing. Factors that are evaluated include:
Your particular health challenge and age
Medications used
Constitution (yin or yang)
Blood type
Activity level
Occupation
Stress levels
These factors will determine the type of fast
you will embark on and the type and frequency of therapy you will
receive during your fast.
Monitoring Your Fast
Once you begin your fast, you will be monitored daily for the following
physiological indicators:
Weight
Blood pressure
Blood sugar
Urine analysis
Salivary pH
Temperature
These factors allow the practitioner
to monitor biochemical events to allow for the optimum time to break
the fast or to change the nature of the fast. Strictly speaking,
fasting is going without any food intake, utilizing only water,
for a period of time. Many modifications are used depending on your
health condition. Juice fasts, herbal broths and teas, and mono-diets
are used for various conditions.

Therapies Available During Your Fast
At Wellspring, we have many alternative therapies provided by certified
experts that will accelerate improvements in your health. These
include:
Hydrotherapy
Chiropractic
Massage
Aromatherapy
Homeopathy
Acupuncture
Herbs
Magnetic stone therapy
Breathwork
These will greatly accelerate your healing
process while creating a relaxing and rejuvenating experience.
The practitioners at Wellspring will advise you as to the appropriate
therapies during your stay, based on your unique needs. Fasting
clients may be limited to certain procedures and natural remedies
during their fast depending on their condition. Non-fasting clients
may utilize more. Instruction in each of these therapies will
be provided. We also have an ongoing lecture program that will
help you to continue a healthier lifestyle once you return home.

Meals at Wellspring
The effect of fasting on health can be amazing. To sustain the results
one must follow through with a health-promoting lifestyle, including
proper diet, exercise habits, and stress management.
At Wellspring, we use whole organic foods tailored to the individual
patients needs. Breakfast is often fresh fruit and/or oatmeal
with some protein. Lunch consists of a large raw vegetable salad,
with steamed vegetables and minimally processed complex carbohydrates,
including steamed or baked potatoes, yams, squash, etc. Dinner may
include another large raw vegetable salad, more steamed vegetables
and rice or other grains, with or without protein. The food program
at Wellspring is also adjusted seasonally, using more yin raw foods
in the summer, and more yang, cooked foods in the winter.
During your stay, we advise avoiding all processed foods that contain
added salt, including white bread, processed cheese, polyunsaturated
oils, sugar, especially sugared beverages, as well as the use of
coffee, alcohol, nicotine and chocolate. In place of conventional
foods, we utilize a menu derived exclusively from whole, unprocessed
foods, including fruits, raw and steamed vegetables, unprocessed
whole grains, beans, nuts and seeds and animal protein if appropriate,
all adjusted to individual metabolic patterns.
By avoiding all processed foods and dairy products as well as foods
with added oil, flour, salt and sugar, our patients eliminate the
dietary excess that is a contributing cause of many health problems.
When combined with a program of proper sleep and exercise, results
are predictably good. By utilizing fasting to commence a new way
of living, patients are able to break bad habits and gain control
of their health.

Optimal Residential Stay at Wellspring
The 14-Day Makeover
The optimal time recommended to effect a profound,
noticeable change in both your health and appearance is two weeks.
During the first week, you will undergo a fast for 6 to 8 days
depending on your condition. The fast will not only detoxify and
cleanse your system internally, but will also result in significant
rejuvenation externally including noticeable signs of reversal
of aging, particularly in skin and hair. Once that is finished,
you will resume meals balanced for your particular system.
You will also begin beauty therapies that will enhance the rejuvenation
process, and continue with needed health-care treatments. At the
end of the two weeks, you will notice dramatic improvements in
both your energy level and appearance. Your investment of time
and funds at Wellspring will be one that will profoundly change
your life.
